How Hub360 can support a circular economy approach in our national road projects

TTII – Transport Infrastructure Ireland has identified what is needed to implement a circular economy approach in our national road projects which identifies key strategies aimed at maximising material reuse, minimising waste, and promoting sustainable practices throughout the project lifecycle. These include;

Plan for Material Reuse

Develop a comprehensive plan to identify and assess opportunities for reusing earthworks, pavement, concrete materials, and by-products from both the existing site and the local area.

Effective Material Management

Ensuring that materials used in road projects are sourced responsibly, with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental impact.

Collect Data on Materials

Data on material sources, reuse, and recyclability should be collected and updated throughout the project, allowing for informed material management throughout the project.

Maintain Digital Material Logs:

Establish a system for retaining material data and sources in an easily accessible digital format. This includes using standardized forms for gathering data on materials. Ensure that this information is readily available to stakeholders.

Low-Impact Construction Methodology

Implement low-impact construction methodologies to minimise environmental footprint throughout the project lifecycle. This includes creating a register of materials used and removed from the project site, tracking their lifecycle, and ensuring responsible management and disposal practices.

By implementing these strategies, national road projects can effectively integrate circular economy principles, promote sustainable material management practices, and minimise environmental impact while maximising resource efficiency.

The Hub360 Tipper app can play a pivotal role in facilitating the implementation of circular economy principles in national road projects by enabling much needed seamless material management processes, providing easy oversight of material sources, reuse, recyclability and waste generated throughout the project lifecycle.

1.Collect Data on Materials

• Through its digital material logs, the Hub360 Tipper App enables real-time tracking and updating of material data during construction, ensuring that project managers have access to accurate information for informed decision-making.

2. Maintain Digital Material Logs

• The Hub360 Tipper App provides a centralised platform for maintaining digital material logs, retaining material data and sources in an easily accessible format.

• By standardizing forms for gathering data on materials and ensuring data availability to stakeholders, the app facilitates transparency and accountability in material management.

3. Low-Impact Construction Methodology

• The Hub360 Tipper App supports low-impact construction methodologies by providing a register of aggregate materials in and waste materials out from the project, allowing project teams to track the materials and ensure responsible management and disposal practices.

• Through the Hub360 digital platform, the app enables efficient documentation and tracking of materials and data collection to enable sustainable material management practices and oversight.
